Individual Awards
This group of categories recognises the movers and shakers in the built environment. Individuals must be based in the Middle East and achievements highlighted should be within the 12 month period leading up to the BPME Awards.
Big Project’s
Young Professional of the Year
Fresh talent is crucial to the future of the built environment and this category recognises, and encourages, excellence from young professionals. Accessible to men and women working in companies including developers, contractors, operators, specialists and suppliers, individuals must only meet the following criteria to qualify: the individual must be under 30 years old, and have held their current position for a period of at least six months.
The transmission of knowledge is crucial in the built environment, and mentors can provide important advice, guidance and support to their mentees, helping the latter to develop important skills and abilities. Simultaneously, mentors can expand their own professional knowledge, skills and abilities through the instruction and facilitation of mentees. This category seeks to recognise the work of individuals who nurture others on their own volition or via sanctioned programmes.
Diversity is still a challenge in the built environment and this category aims to shine a spotlight on women who have made their mark on the built environment and are continuing their professional journeys.
Open to women working at developers, contractors, operators, specialists and suppliers, individuals must meet the following criteria to qualify: they must have at least three years of experience in the construction sector and not hold an executive or C-suite role…

Executives sit at the top of the pyramid within an organisation and are responsible for overseeing everything from a firm’s general direction to finances and operations. Men and women with at least three years of service within their respective organisations as part of the C-Suite qualify to participate in this category.
Sustainability in the built environment has gone from being an optional extra to mandatory and the categories here seek to highlight and recognise sustainability-focused excellence. Organisations from across the Middle East are welcome to participate and should look to highlight their performance in the 12 months leading up to the Big Project ME Awards.
Supply Chain Sustainability

As the built environment steps up its focus on sustainable development and achieving Net Zero to prevent catastrophic climate change, this category recognises companies that have incorporated sustainable practices across their business and on job sites.
Conceptualised to highlight recent projects that best embody sustainable principles and practices in the construction or post-construction phase, this category welcomes nominations from developers, contractors and operators.
Projects that have been completed and are operational in the 12 months leading up to the awards will be considered for this award (projects that are under construction will not be considered).
Developers are the masterminds behind projects and with an increasing number of developers setting up shop in the region, Big Project ME is significantly expanding its focus and recognition of these crucial built environment stakeholders.
Small
Small Developer of the Year
Developers sit at the upper echelons of the built environment and are responsible for driving the development of real estate in a city. Companies investing in the development of residential, commercial, hospitality, or retail projects in the Middle East, with development values up to US $30 million qualify for this category. Developments can be either standalone structures or small developments; developers with project investment values greater than $30 million should nominate in the ‘Mid-sized Developer of the Year’ category.
Developers sit at the upper echelons of the built environment and are responsible for driving the development of real estate in a city. Companies investing in the development of residential, commercial, hospitality, and retail projects in the Middle East (with community developments or standalone structures), with development values between US $30- to $100-million qualify for this category.

Companies investing in the development of residential, commercial, hospitality, and retail projects in the Middle East (with masterplans or standalone structures), with development values over US $300 million and up to $1 billion qualify. Companies that exceed the latter investment value should nominate in the ‘Giga Developer of the Year’ category.

Contractors bear the ultimate burden of project delivery and must balance several elements to ensure that they not only deliver on their commitments but have a financially viable business that places a premium on staff safety and sustainability. With this group of awards, Big Project ME recognises the work of the region’s best and brightest contactors, whether they are small firms or large contractors delivering megaprojects with billions in revenue.
Skills Development
Programme of the Year
Nurturing skills and passing them on to future generations is critical in the built environment. This category therefore seeks to highlight and recognise companies that invest in staff, and encourage them to further develop their personnel skills or undertake career advancement programmes.

MEP contractors are responsible for the delivery of a structure’s mechanical, electrical, and plumbing elements, and this category is dedicated to recognising the region’s most professional, efficient and respected MEP organisations, whether they are a standalone firm or one that is part of a larger group.
Robust infrastructure is the glue that holds the world together, which means civil/infrastructure contractors must be at the top of their game to deliver these critical projects. The ‘Infrastructure Contract of the Year’ category is dedicated to recognising the most professional, efficient and respected civil/infrastructure contractors, who are delivering anything from roads to power plants to refineries or even water distribution networks.
Main contractors are the ultimate custodians of project delivery and must balance several elements successfully to ensure that their business thrives, whilst delivering projects in line with the developer’s original vision, on time and on budget. This category seeks to recognise the best of the region’s small contractors and is open to nominations from firms with between US $2mn to $25mn in annual revenues. Firms with revenues above this specified threshold should consider the ‘Mid-sized Contractor of the Year’ category.

3D printing technology has emerged as a suitable method of on-site project delivery and, as the technology evolves, contractors are using 3D printers to deliver a broader range of projects. Although hidden from view, a project’s mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) is crucial to creating a space that is both usable and safe. MEP is particularly important in the Middle East, which is why this category honors outstanding displays of MEP contracting work from across the region. There are no restrictions as to the type of project that can be submitted (residential, commercial, leisure etc), as long as the focus of the nomination is on the project’s MEP elements.
A refurbishment or retrofit project that is being undertaken by an experienced contractor can give aging assets a new lease on life. As organisations step up their focus on sustainability or look to gain additional value from existing assets, refurbishments have increased in frequency across the Middle East. Here, Big Project ME looks to highlight exemplary refurbishment and retrofit projects. There are no restrictions as to the type of project that can be submitted (residential, commercial, leisure etc).
